Description
On April 15, 2007, the Palmerton Area Heritage Center sponsored a Vintage Fashion Show, and although it was a dreary rainy afternoon in Palmerton, PA; one would never know that from the sounds coming from inside the social rooms of the First United Church of Christ at 457 Delaware Avenue.

Applause and laughter filled the room as both the participants and the audience enjoyed the program presented by Caroline's Closet under the direction of Faith Andrews of Alburtis, PA. Ms. Andrews named her business in honor or her grandmother, the inspiration for her love of fashion. She researches the periods of time and the influences of popular culture, technological advances and notable people to write the vignettes to accompany each outfit. Her collection includes items from the 16th century to the present.

To prepare for the presentation, the models met with Ms. Andrews one week in advance of the show to choose the various outfits that he or she would wear. Hats, handbags, parasols, and gloves were among the items selected to accessorize each garment. After selecting the ensembles, everyone also participated in a rehearsal. On the day of the show each ensemble was laid out in its entirety in order to facilitate quick changes.

All but two of the models were members of the Palmerton Area Historical Society. Those models "strutting their stuff" included Betsy Burnhauser, Emily Burnhauser, Diane Danielson, Rita Goidich, Marlene Greenwood, Barbara Koeller, Betty Steigerwalt and Sarah Steigerwalt. The individuals assisting with costume changes included Jean Bechdolt, Shirley Blynn, Anita Harry and Jean Stemler.

Not all of the participants were women, however, and not to be outdone, Peter Blynn, Jim Burnhauser, Roger Danielson and Peter Kern thrilled the ladies in the audience and added a special touch by modeling men's hats.

As with any production, additional help was needed. Vinita Horinko and Maryann Smelas handled the admissions while Sheri Anthony, Sue Steigerwalt, and Mary Taschler took care of the refreshments. Phil Steigerwalt designed and printed the programs.
