CALENDAR FOR 2010
January 11 - This is traditionally our Show 'N Tell meeting. This year, instead of audience participation, a guest presenter will be "Showing and Telling". Well-known historian and antique expert, Jack Gunsser, will share some of his "goodies" and ask the question, "What the heck was this used for?" You don't want to miss this one - it promises to be humorous as well as informative.
February 8 - This is an opportunity to learn about some of the First Ladies who are not as well known as others. After a few of them were introduced, by video tape at a meeting last year, the group expressed a desire to learn about some of the others.
March 8 - Architect, Ben Walbert, will be discussing the restoration and renovation of historic buildings. This is a timely subject since the society has received an official "Determination of Eligibility" from the Pennsylvania Historic Museum Commission for establishment of a Historic District.
April 12 - The society is flying into spring with the bluebirds. Don Bonett will present a program on his "up-close" studies and association with bluebirds. The video portion of his presentation will amaze everyone.
May 10 - This month we are privileged to visit the Anoopam Mission and Hindu Temple on Clearview Road, Coplay, PA. Our host, Mr. Shree Patel, will give us some background before we attend the Hindu service. Don't miss this rare opportunity to learn about another culture and religion. You will need a pair of socks. We will carpool from the parking lot across from Hager's Furniture Store promptly at 6:00 p.m. Transportation is available for anyone needing a ride.
June 14 - Along with the nice summer weather comes the time to take the "Mystery Trip". The group will meet in in the parking lot across the street from Hager's Furniture Store. Departure time is promptly at 6:00 p.m. Transportation is available for anyone needing a ride.
July 12 - The Carbon Model Railroad Association and the Palmerton Area Historical Society have shared common interests for a long time. Their group has grown considerably to the point where their display in an old church in Bowmanstown is well-worth a visit. Our group will leave at 6:30 p.m. from the lot across from Hager's Furniture Store. Transportation will be available to anyone needing a ride.
August 9 - This is the month for our annual picnic at the farm of society member, Bert Holczman. One of the perks of membership in the society is that this is a members and their guests only event. Everyone is asked to bring a casserole, covered dish or dessert. The society supplies the hamburgers, hot dogs, rolls, condiments, beverages and utensils. Come anytime after 4:00 p.m. To make a reservation call 610-377-5693. The rain date is August 10th.
September 13 - The Lehigh Gap Nature Center has made tremendous strides since our last visit several years ago. If their building program proceeds according to schedule, our group will be the first to visit in their new facility. We will carpool from the parking lot across from Hager Furniture Store at 6:30 p.m. Transportation is available for anyone needing a ride.
October 11 - Three hundred sixty-six years ago, on October 14, 1644, William Penn, the founder of the state of Pennsylvania, was born. Society member, Betsy Burnhauser, will present a biography of this courageous man followed by a video. The video is a "visual field trip" to the 20th century reconstruction of Penn's country home along the Delaware River just North of Philadelphia.
November 8 - This program will be informative as well as a chance to enjoy the outstanding photography of Bob and Connie Reinhard. They will present a pictorial trip of the Gettysburg Battlefield.
December 13 - Make attending the society's annual Christmas dinner part of your holiday season celebration, This is another society membership perk. This event is for members and their guests only. More details will be forth-coming.
