In order to fulfill its purpose of preserving the heritage of its Mission Area, The Palmerton Area Historical Society depends on donations from Society members, friends, and the general public to increase its archival collection.
All donated items begin with the Acquisitions Chair Mr. George Ashman. Upon acceptance of an item, Mr. Ashman assists the Donor in completing a Temporary Custody Agreement. This form specifies the terms of custody and gives permission to the Society to handle the donation according to those terms. Mr. Ashman will then enter the item(s) into the Temporary Custody data base.
The Acquisitioned item is then placed in Temporary Custody to await review by the Accessions Committee. Acceptance of an item is based on whether or not it is pertinent to the geographical area encompassed by the Society's Mission Statement for Palmerton, Bowmanstown, Towamensing, and Lower Towamensing Townships.
Based on the Committee's determination, the Acquisitioned item will be Accessioned, Returned, or Transferred to a more appropriate organization. A Thank-You letter is then sent along with a Deed of Gift form after the item has been accessioned. The Item is then ready to be recorded in the data base, preserved, and stored in the Main Collection Room.
