Description
The "New Archives" is now located in a suite of adjoining rooms and closets on the East side of the second floor of the Palmerton Borough Building on Delaware Avenue in Palmerton, PA. While it is less than thirty feet away from its original location, it offers numerous advantages for the Society, for PAHS volunteers, and for individuals interested in doing research at the Archives.

SOME ADVANTAGES:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOR THE SOCIETY:
~~~ An environment customized to streamline the operation of the PAHS organization.

~~~ Specific areas have been organized to accommodate specific functions:
~~~~~~ A communication center.
~~~~~~ A tracking station for the status of accessioned items.
~~~ The RECEIVING ROOM serves as:
~~~~~~ The storage area for Acquisitions in Temporary Custody.
~~~~~~ The meeting room to evaluate if Acquisitions meet the Mission Statement.
~~~~~~ The Holding area for items being Accessioned, Preserved, Returned, or Transferred.
~~~ The OFFICE serves as:
~~~~~~ A storage area for records and office supplies.
~~~~~~ A work room for data entry, image scanning, digital photography, and copying.
~~~~~~ A training room for new volunteers.
~~~ The MAIN COLLECTION ROOM serves as:
~~~~~~ A "library" of sorts for the PAHS collection.
~~~~~~ A work room for volunteers.
~~~~~~ A study room for researchers.
~~~ The various CLOSETS serve as:
~~~~~~ Storage for maintenance supplies.
~~~~~~ Storage for office supplies.
~~~~~~ Storage for preservation supplies.
~~~~~~ Storage for specific collections such as books, objects or paintings.

~~~ The additional EXHIBIT SPACE on walls and in corners showcases accessions.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

FOR PAHS VOLUNTEERS:

~~~ The New Archives offers a spacious and more organized environment in which to work.
~~~ Shelving, labels, file organizers, and workstations direct the flow and ease of item handling and data entry.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOR RESEARCHERS:
~~~ A Collection Room Map shows the locations of the accessions.

~~~ Labels identify the items in stacks.
~~~ IN THE FUTURE: Access to the Computerized Data Base.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While PAHS is making great strides in fulfilling its mission, it always needs more volunteers for computer and non-computer jobs. We would love to see you here at the Archives.
