When the society was known as the Lehigh Gap Historical and Preservation Society and Museum, Inc., the quarterly newsletter was named, "The Lehigh Gap Observer." It was identified by its title and by the logo which was a circle looking South through the Lehigh Gap. The logo was drawn as a pen and ink sketch of the Lehigh Gap, by local artist Kathy Long. It depicted the Lehigh River, the Lehigh Canal, the aqueduct, the highway, and the Lehigh & New England Railroad Trestle. After the society name changed to the Palmerton Area Historical Society, the newsletter name changed to, "The Scribe." The newsletter is now identified by its new title and new logo as depicted on the Home Page. The new motto, "Knee Deep in History", was added under the circle.
Each issue contains current society news, requests for answers to questions from the readers or researchers, and some of "This 'n That". One of the columns is entitled, "Listen to this." This column contains interesting, historical information discovered by the volunteers working in the archives. As they are busy logging in items and preserving, invariably someone will say, "Listen to this", and everyone enjoys the "treasure".
Often after reading the newsletter, a reader will respond with additional information or comments on an article. Due to reader interest and participation, the newsletter has grown from the original two or three page edition to five or six double-sided pages. It is published under the supervision of Garry Mack, editor-in-chief, assisted by George Ashman and Betsy Burnhauser.
The newsletter is one of "the perks" for society members.
